This is a post all about the Grizz's surgery. If that isn't your thing, feel free to move on.
How does a dog tear his ACL? In short, we'll never know.
His hip started making a popping sound a couple of weeks ago, so we decided to take him in. I feared at worst, he was starting to develop hip dysplasia, at best he had popped it out of socket and just needed a quick, albeit painful readjustment. Don't you want me to diagnose your pet? I'm very accurate.
So when I got the text from MS that he had torn his ACL and needed surgery in the next week, I was floored.
So we loaded up to head to the vet. Which always starts on a good note. Until door number one opens and the seizure like shaking begins. It was a great Monday morning.
He went in for a sedated evaluation where they learned he had, in fact, partially torn his ACL, so they would finish the tear (hope you have a trash can nearby to throw up in), and replace the tendon with a 100 lb. string. He was developing arthritis in his knee, which means he probably tore it 6 months ago. Seriously, don't you want me to care for your animal?
During his time at the vet, they told me he was "a big weenie for such a tough dog" and "loving the drugs". Hope we aren't on Intervention anytime soon. Dear Namath, your addiction to Tramadol has effected me negatively in the following ways....
He also had a run in with a pig. Needless to say, he was glad to be home.
Swelling and all.
For such a weenie, he's doing excellent, and rocking his new scar and freshly shaved leg. I'm as proud as one can be for a dog.
He's not scared to put some weight on it or head straight to the stairs. I'm scared...we paid the vet bill.
He's also rocking his way through the bottle of pain pills. Wrapped in cheese, of course.
He is eating up every bit of attention, and we are more than happy to lay it on thick.
He isn't quite sure why we have to carry him up the stairs, which is no small feat. It is a small workout.
So glad this character will be on the road to recovery in the new house. Until then, he's getting everything his heart desires. Some days that's pain pills stuffed in giant marshmallows.
It's a rough life.
